Very simple to make and functional...These cute lil organizers also make great gifts for party favors if you are doing a crop or swarm....or just a simple little gift for "Teacher's" Appreciation Day or Secretary's Day...So why not make one or even a few. Announcement : ATC "Sista" Swap

Interested in a Sista Artist Trading Card (ATC) Swap? We are trying to get a group of ladies interested in participating in the swap to provide a little more information about each other. And at the same time, the cards provide a sample of the artistic talent of the creator. ScrapCheryl will host the Swap.

The ATC's will contain information about you that you don’t mind sharing.
The ATC card size must be at least 2 ¼ inches tall and 3 ½ inches long but no larger than 3 x 5. (I have created several sizes of rolodex cards using my Cricut and Graphically Speaking, so I can send you settings to make your cutting tasks easier if you have that cart.)
You must incorporate a small picture of yourself (to put a face with a screen name and artwork, so to speak!), your MB screen name and things you choose to share about yourself. Sometimes including a birth date, email address, even home address results in a nice RAK surprise greeting from participants in ATC swaps.

We will provide other details once we find out if we have enough people to participate.

If you are interested, send an email to the Sistas gmail account-( thesistasblog@gmail.com ) to ATTN: ScrapCheryl. The email should contain your Name, Address, Phone number, email address and preferred Artist Trading Card size. As stated before ....More information will be provided later, once we find out how many people are interested in the swap......

Challnge #5-"Layering"- July 6-12, 2009

Wow, the Design Team" have really been doing a splendid job with the challenges each week displaying the different techniques in Scrapbooking. "Great Job", Ladies. This week we decided to use the "layering Technique". There are so may cartridges that use the layering technique and sometimes all of those pieces can be somewhat intimidating. The process only looks difficult.... not only is it fun to do....it's quite easy. The different color paper for all of the pieces can be placed on the mat at once ...and if you are using the "E" the blade can be moved to each color and cut...Then all of your pieces are cut at once and you can put the pieces together. A tip in applying the layers.....Start with the Shadow or Blackout piece.

Take a look at some of the projects the DT put together. You'll find this technique just as fun to do as we did......Enjoy ladies.

"Heat" Embossing Technique -June 8-14 Sista Challenge

Okay Ladies..."The Majority Ruled".....We are now doing "One" challenge a week. The weekly challenges will continue to be posted on the Sistas Blog and all submissions should be sent to the g-mail account. The Sistas Challenges and Projects Blog now has a "Design Team". "Yay"...........The team was set up to show different takes on the challenges that are posted weekly. Presently, there are 3 Design Team members on a 5 member Design Team( as we are sure it will grow pretty fast).....a couple of slots are open for anyone that is interested in submitting a project that they feel shows their creativity,technique and style . So Yes.....we are looking for "A Few Good Ladies"........(I know, I stole that title......hehe.....). So, if interested shoot us an email to the gmail account on the Sistas Blog. The team members are committed to creating a project each week following the guidelines and doing the projects in a timely fashion...The techniques and creativity will help others learn different techniques, allow a person to grow in their creative style and challenge themselves to using all of those supplies and products we have this great desire to go out and purchase. Okay, Ladies........ have fun and Thank you to the ladies that are a part of the Design Team.

And for this week challenge: I am sure you all have a heat gun stashed away some where.......Well, now we get to pull it out, blow the dust off and put it to good use. This challenge was submitted by Lisa,Lisa& ScrapJam. I was happy to do the challenge because there was quite a bit of dust buildup on my heating tool.....(hehe...) but I am now going to put it to good use. And.... as I pulled out my supplies I needed for this project...I realized that my embossing powders and versamark pads were just sitting pretty on my shelves.......So ladies, join us on this challenge. If you have never done "heat embossing" before ...here is your opportunity to learn a new technique that will allow you to learn simple embossing or just another way to use those stamps that you have sitting around and never found that "perfect" use for. This is a very easy project with excellent results.....I see a lot of heat embossing in my future. (hehe...)

Materials You will Need: Versamark Stamp Pad, Embossing Powder, Embossing Buddy, Funnel Tray, Heat Gun, Cardstock, and a Stamp

1. Place the cardstock in the funnel tray.

2. Rub Embossing Buddy over the cardstock.

3. Take your Stamp and stamp it on the VersaMark Pad.

4. Pour Embossing Powder over your image.

5. Shake off the excess in the tray, then pour it back into the jar.

6. Heat the powdered image until the powder melts and is shiny.

7. You now have an Embossed image that you can add to your project.

Tricks to remember Inks: by MyraB

Dye = "D" for dye means it Dries fast (probably not good for embossing because will dry before you can get the powder on it)

Pigment = "P" for needs Powder (takes longer to dry and best for embossing) Embossing pads = made specifically for embossing or watermarking. They are usually clear, sticky and will leave a watermark if you don't put embossing on it (See Ms_Dee's card she did both watermarks and embossing)

Embossing Buddy: it is corn starch and what it does is prevents static electricity from spreading the embossing powder to places on your card beyond where the ink is. You want to use it to keep from having embossed specks of powder in random places on your card/layout. Embossing works on other surfaces as long as the surface can take intense heat. The heating gun gets REALLY hot. Don't use a hair dryer -- it doesn't get hot enough and all it will do is blow the powder EVERYWHERE.

Best type of ink and powder: I prefer VersaFine and VersaMark for my stamping and for my embossing. VersaFine works really well on stamps that have a lot of detail. I also prefer super fine embossing powder by Ranger. It melts really fast and looks really smooth. Cheaper brands (like Joann's) doesn't melt fast enough and has lumps in it (you have to stop melting at some point or the paper burns).

One last thing. I have the funnel tray but don't like using it. The static electricity makes the powder stick to it if you don't rub it with the embossing buddy first. I find it easier to use a scrap piece of paper to catch the extra powder and the powder I tap off. I then fold the paper "funnel like" and poor the powder back into the container. It's easier and quicker than my tray. One cool thing for those of you who like to doodle or like your own handwriting. VersaMark makes a pen that you can use to write with in embossing ink. You then add the powder and heat and you have your own doodle or handwritten embossed image! Love that.

Related to our forum: I picked this quote as I was looking at the M's and HL coupons for this week. These stores are doubly tempting for me as I can be at either one within 5 minutes! I have more than enough stuff, yet there have been times that I "didn't want to waste a coupon" and purchased items because of this. My actions led my scrapbook area to have Excess. As we start the weekend, where we often tend to shop the most, think about the crafting supplies you really need. Is it worth it to buy that cute designer paper or more effective to replenish your adhesive. Do you have to have the latest item now? I'm not saying I have this principle down pact, but I am learning to scrap my stash. I don't want to continue to get items that I will never use. Have a great weekend! Lisa

Okay Ladies.......We promised ourselves a Fashion Show......and you all are doing such a great job with the "Scallop Dress" techniques...that we really have to have a "Fashionista" by this weekend......So anyone still working on your Scallop Dress technique....now is the time to add your finishing touches and complete them....Anyone that has questions....feel free to ask on the Sista thread...someone will answer or lead you in the right direction...... Saturday, May 30, a Slide show will be posted with all of your fashions, cards and LO's using this technique......So far....we have some great ideas submitted.....Keep up the good work Ladies....and show everyone your style.....

We are also back to maintaining the Sistas Blog with the help of just a couple of people.... so bear with us.....as we try to make this a smooth transition......I(Ms_Dee) am trying to lift the pics of your projects off of the Sista Thread.....so far anyone that does not send a pic of their project to the gmail account and it is not included in a Slideshow or your projects are not displayed with others .....please send an email to the gmail account and a pic of your project (if you can) and let us know that we missed your project.........as we are not ommiting or overlooking your projects intentionally........It's just easier when your projects are sent to a centralized location ..................the MB (Sistas Thread) moves too fast.....So Ladies.....we need some help here .........We will be checking the g-mail account on a regular basis to make sure all email are picked up...... Challenge #1 – Tri-Fold Shutter card (Suggested by Lanita)
This card looks similar to a Quad Fold Card. Just by a few folds and cuts it makes this great card. It is a lot easier to make then it looks, matter of fact.....very simple. And we are going to do just that....... So do you want to be a part of the "Fashion Show"???? Have you ever wanted to create a glass etched project for a friend, a wedding, or an anniversary for that special someone..... and thought it was just too hard of a task...Well, with a few items ....you can create a this project with very little effort.....We had planned to do the Etching project about a month ago... and even suggested you go out and get the products you needed to do this project........Well, now the time has come....So gather up all of your materials that you have been waiting so patiently to use and show us what you are creating.......I am sure the project that you make will be onse that you and any one that you present them too will be very proud of...................

A few of the Sistas went to a recent QVC show where Lisa Bearnson recorded her last show. She’s decided to work from home to be near her family. We had a lot of fun...Lisa Bearnson (Founding Editor of Creating Keepsakes Magazine) was really nice and personal with the audience - she gave out hugs left and right. After the show she had a (unscheduled) Q & A session, then signed autographs and took pictures.

Lisa gave out a nice goody bag…with a copy of the May 09 – Creating Keepsake Magazine (which she signed for us); Sizzix Tag Set #3 (butterfly, heart, star & flower) & an extra flower; Photo envelope by Tapestry (holds 20 4x6);8 adhesive badges by Flair (looks like buttons/pins); 2 Prima Large Flowers; pack of 4.5x6.5 – 80 sheet ColorCore Cardstock (20 colors) & last but not least a 8.5x 11 Expandable Scrapbook with Scrapbook Software. Almost forgot there is also a Sizzix Book "Make It Your Style" ideas for scrapbooking, home decor & fashion.(see sample http://www.sizzix.com/product/904 )

Anna Griffin gave out a Rub-on Transfer Kit – Family assortment 12 sheets total with 652 rub-on’s; craft stick and design/idea sheet. Anna co-hosted the show with David Venable.

This Week's Challenges- May 11-18, 2009

The Sistas Challenges May 11th - 18th -Poem/Song and Pretty Bugs Layouts, Stair Step Fold Card

Here are this week's challenges. Show off your imaginative and unique ideas! As you complete the challenge, please post it on "The Sistas" thread on the Cricut Message Board AND send them to thesistasblog@gmail.com - Do not send links please! Instead, email your pics.

Challenge #1 - Poem or Song
This is actually simliar to a previous challenge. Post a layout with a poem or song.

Challenge #2 - Pretty creepy crawlers
Create a layout with any pretty insect; butterfly, dragonfly, caterpillar, etc, - You must use an insect from one of the Cricut cartridges.

Challenge #3 - Courtesy of Schnurse2004 -
It's called either a Stair Step fold, or an Accordion fold, depending on the orientation of your project. This would be a Stair Step fold since it's landscape, but this fold can work either way - portrait or landscape. (See directions below....)

*************Directions For Stair Step Fold/Accordion Fold Card*****************
Cut cardstock-10.5 X 5.0 -( if you want to stamp on this, now would be the time to do it.)
Score cardstock at 1.25" - 2.5" - 4.25", 6" and 8.25"
Fold with hills and valleys (accordion style) making sure that the smallest (1.25" fold) is folded down, as this will be the front of your card)

Once you look at the samples, you will see what I'm referring to. Now here's the fun part...decorate with ANYTHING...punches, cut-outs, stickers, flowers, stickles, skittles...whatever your theme is, run with it. These cards may be done in landscape or portrait orientation so 'step it up' and let your imagination run wild. See a few samples here .........

A Great Day With Da Sistas!!

A few of the Scrap Sistas had the best time hanging out in Fredericksburg, VA scrap store hopping!! From Scrapdoodles, to J's, to ACM's, and finally M's. Eight hours went by like eight minutes. Ms_Dee, ShellyWorld (Michelle), IB2BZ2W8 (Sharon), & TP98 (Treva) had an exhausting, but fun day, laughing, learning, & getting to know one another. Can't wait until the next get together….hopefully with more Cricut Sistas….

Card Challenge
Easter Egg Shaped Card
Use the Easter egg from Doodlecharms for Easter egg shaped card.
The Egg shape must be cut @ at least 6" using Expression and at least 5.5" using the Baby Bug or Create.
The card must have the letter "E" on it. The letter "E" can be from any Font cart.

Layout Challenge
Use the title "April Showers Bring May Flowers"
Incorporate rain drops and flowers.
Use ribbon.
Journal what you like about this time of the year.
Use some type of embellishment.
Layer some aspect of your layout.

Greetings! We know you're excited about this week's challenges. They will be posted momentarily and you will then be able to let your creative juices flow.

Our goal is to get you out of your "comfort zone." If you are a card maker, try your hand at the layout challenge. If layouts are your thing, why not amaze yourself and others with skills you never knew you had. In addition to the card and layout challenge, you will also be given an "out of the box" challenge. Stay tuned for more information!

"Happy April Fools Day" Ladies - But,....this is No Joke.....

Ladies......Today is the last day for the challenges. All projects must be submitted by 12:00 midnight EST.......once we get all of the projects posted ....If you would like to leave a comment about any of the projects...You may do so at the end of this post........But........Send an email to Shellyworld @ booboo083006@comcast.net of the project that you feel should win the "RAK".........

That's right ladies.....You all are going to help decide who's project is deserving of the "RAK".......Oh......and "EXCLUDE" any projects submitted by me......(Ms-Dee)..........I know....doesn't seem fair does it???? ...JK..(Smile).....

This is a "Challenge" blog for "The Sistas"...... a place to share our completed projects ---- our creativity, energy... and ideas.....

About a month ago....a group of "Sistas" got together on a MB thread and started creating, sharing, fellowshipping....call it what you want ....but we ended up sharing a lot of our Scrapbooking, cardmaking, paper altering ideas...( and a lil' personal stuff too ......but really had no place to display our finished projects)..........( The MB moved soooo fast....and a lot of nice projects and ideas were missed or hidden in the pages).............So....we decided to create "The Sistas" Challenge blog ...... for the purpose of sharing our projects, challenges and inspiration........

Weekend Challenges -3/27 thru 4/1

But First....This is the "RAK" that one of the "Lucky" ladies will win for submitting their "challenge(s)".....We're really enjoying this weekend challenge.....This is really the first "organized challenge that "The Sistas" have put together.....so we'll see where it goes from here.....
